Day 6: 47.5 Laguna campground to 63.6 miles
Starting bright and early at 6.15am on day 6, April 22nd 2025 from Mount Laguna Campground

Today was hard because I didn’t sleep well. Again. Haven’t been sleeping well since I got to San Diego. Altitude? The Cold? Hiking so much? Camping? All of the above?

Since it was our longest day yet with 16 miles and it’s getting hotter, we set an alarm for 5.30am and wanted to leave at 6am. Almost! We left at left by 6.15am with liquid breakfast.

The stars were amazing 🤩

I looked at the stars for hours – although I felt there was a lot of light pollution

It was hot – 30 degrees C, 90 F – and many descends and ascends. Felt brutal.

We walked super far because the next water was 10 miles away, so we had our longest and heaviest water carry yet.

After a brutal descend, we camped 16 miles from where we started at mile 63.6. A beautiful spot!

And I cowboy camped for the first time – meaning just me my Matt and sleeping pad – no tent. Couldn’t sleep again for hours. On trail, you go to bed with the sun – I hardly use my head lamp – but usually lay awake till 11pm thinking about the day. I hope that will go away when I start making longer days. Eight now I am really trying to go slow and pace myself in order not to injure myself.

I still have a cold and that’s really annoying but what can you do. One foot in front of the other. Tomorrow is another day.
