Our Canada adventure begins
Meet Bilbo, our home for the next two weeks. We drove from Seattle to Whistler, Canada and stayed in a wonderful natural campground the the first night:
20 years of friendship
The Aho’s took me in as an exchange student when I was 16 and having issues with my host family. So I lived with them for 9 months. This was the luckiest coincidence. They’re the greatest people you can imagine and they supported me with everything I needed during my stay in Bremerton in 2004/2005. Over the last 20 years, we have stayed in touch and went on many international trips together. We became family and after 20 years, it was time to celebrate that. Kay and I have planned many international trips for both of our families together over the last 20 years so we also planned our 20 years anniversary party as co hosts at their beautiful home in Illahee, Washington state. It was so much fun reminiscing with everyone at their house:
Off I go again: Canada & USA here I come
The last few months I’ve been preparing for today: buying new equipment, and upgrading my outdoor clothes in order to have everything ready for my big adventure: everything I need to backpack and camp for 2 months but not too much stuff. And finally, it’s time to leave today Friday 26th at 5.30 AM: my two-month sabbatical starts with 6 weeks of backpacking through the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. 🤩
