Whitewater rafting & making a new friend

August 3rd 2024

On Saturday we went Whitewater rafting on Kicking Horse River. It was a long tour and included some class 4 rapids. It was insane, soo much fun. We also floated down the river for 30 miles or so. Why is it called Kicking Horse River?

In the afternoon, we checked out Tekkakaw Falls and tried to camp there but entire Yoho National Park van and tent spots were full – except Hoodoo Campground from our previous night.

We drove around 30min back to Hoodoo and got the last spot. Lucky!

Got the last spot looking at Chancellor Peak again

Traveling during summer vacation in Germany, USA and Canada + that public holiday in Canada made an already busy area completely overcrowded.

Many people came looking for a spot and had to turn away again because everything was full. We ended up inviting a guy traveling solo looking for a camp spot for the night, to join our spot. We had a great evening cooking and talking with Josh, 27, from Ontario and enjoyed his company greatly. Josh was driving from Ontario to Whitehorse, Yukon. He had a small car fully packed, a huge Yeti Cooler, filled with ice and meat. He ate nothing but a whole chicken breast. Go Josh!!

Turned out we even had the same stove setup 🙂 thanks Zach 😉
It was lovely having company for dinner

As always, we went to bed early, as we had yet another early start the next day.
