Anchorage: not the capital of Alaska, that’s Juneau (the only state capital you can’t travel to by car!) but the biggest city of the state. 40% of Alaskans live here. You’re still in the wild quickly with the Chugach mountains on its doorstep.
My first stop was at the Alaskan National Heritage Center: it tells the history of Alaskan native tribes
Over the last 3 weeks I have driven 2165,7miles in 53h and 47min.
It’s been a trip with many ups and downs, challenges and revelations. I am amazed by Alaska: untouched nature, more mountains I could photograph, animals I have never seen before and peculiar people, ice cold rivers fed by the largest glaciers.
I felt a strong desire to travel to Alaska and to this day do not know where it came from: I don’t know anyone who recently went there and I also didn’t watch a movie. Wilderness and nature were calling me and I followed! Haha Following that intuition paid off. I feel incredibly fulfilled having experienced all the adventures of the last 3 weeks in Alaska, having met all these wonderful people and overcoming multiple challenges along the way made me stronger and more confident than I’ve ever been before. After facing my fears of being alone in the wild with bears and moose, I feel nothing can stop me. 💪
I returned the car and hoped they wouldn’t charge me for the scratch on the back door or the fact that I drove the forbidden Denali Hwy. I got lucky again. I am about to hop onto my plane back to Germany. One eye smiling one eye crying. I am looking forward to being home with the amenities of a modern home like running water and a dishwasher. But I’ll miss the adventures Alaska held for me each day.
All good things must come to an end.
