Trip to Seldovia – dreamy village across Kachemak Bay where time stands still
Seldovia is a little non-touristic village – a secret- about 45 min across from Homer and kachemak bay. It’s the cutest little village. My highlight was seeing once almost extinct wild sea otters:
Homer, Kachemak Bay and Grace Ridge Trail
After that amazing night, I’ll never forget at the campground with little sleep we drove to Homer – Halibut Fishing Capitol of the world, a recent Olympic gold medalist birthplace and one of the most iconic cities in Alaska.
Illahee days: Puzzles, Kayaking and Mt Townsend
We had a great time relaxing in the beautiful Illahee home of the Aho’s that included completing a 1000 piece puzzle, kayaking to Illahee state park to hike around and climbing another mountain.
On the road again
12th – 13th of August
After two weeks in British Columbia and Alberta, two of 13 provinces of Canada, 🇨🇦 visiting 5 National Parks (Yoho NP, Glacier NP, Banff NP, Kooteney NP, Jasper NP and countless Provincial Parks) it is time to make our way back to Illahee, our base and reunite with Brett, Jim, Kay, Zach, Megan and the rest of the Aho-crew. So the next two days are mostly spent on the road.
Here is how Germany compares to these two provinces in size btw:
Icefield Parkway | Part 2 Rampart Creek Campground aka living with a bear
9th – 11th of August 2024
About a week ago, I got an email from Parks Canada (through whom we made the reservation) that we wouldn’t be able to stay in a soft sided tent at Rampart Creek Campground, as a young bear was toying with humans and gear on the Campground. We decided to stay there anyway but were definitely a bit nervous leading up to this. Turms of Outlet peile werd since the place was empty. When booking all the good water front spots were taken, but now we could move right next to the river 😊
4 days offline on Icefield Parkway | Part 1
8th – 9th of August
The one road to get from Lake Louise to Jasper is one of the prettiest roads I’ve ever driven: Icefield Parkway.
Banff town & Johnston Canyon
6th & 7th of August 2024
After the via Ferrata, we were quite beat so went spent two days with little hikes around Johnston canyon, where we stayed at the campground and hanging out in the beautiful town of Banff. Included here was a steak dinner, several trips to outdoor shops and a visit to the alpine medical center for what seemed like a big and deep splinter (turned out there was nothing) aaaand more Poutine🤤
Vía Ferrata in Banff up Mount Norquay
August 5th 2024
We had another early start at 7.00 and drove up to North American Lodge at the bottom of Mount Norquay. We did a guided 6-hour vía Ferrata.
There are only guided tours up Mt Norquay AC and several different routes. We did the summiteer which goes all the way to the summit.
Driving day to Yoho National Park and last minute day pass to Lake Louise and Lake Moraine 🥳
August 2nd 2024
Friday started with good luck: we got a day pass for Lake Louise and Lake Moraine. Here’s how: We weren’t able to get a ticket for Lake moraine and Lake Louis because they were all booked out a year in advance. Luckily we found out that two days in advance at 7AM, last minute tickets go online. We were lucky as there’s only one ticket per time slot available.
On the road to Revelstoke
August 1st 2024
We drove most of the day from Lake Edith Campground near Kamloops to Revelstoke.
